I was contacted by Parkland Ventures, Manufactured Housing Communities to create 31 paintings to commemorate their 10th business anniversary. At first I thought to myself, 2 weeks to make 31 paintings…totally possible. Yikes!!
Staying up until 2am or 3am to finish projects at RISD is very familiar and I since I had been through it before…I was prepared to do it again. In order to stay on course, I made 3 paintings a day, that is after my side hustle as a floral designer.
Week 1: 15 completed Monday-Friday. Went to Silicon Valley for the weekend. Got inspired at the Filoli Gardens and had a great time with a dear friend and her family.
Week 2: Monday afternoon I produced 3 more paintings and kept the pace throughout the week. Saturday -Sunday I picked up each painting and looked at them and asked “Do I like you? Are you inspiring? This was the internal dialogue I had with each piece of art until I got through adjusting all 31 paintings.
Just when I thought I could take a break, my friend saw the project and asked me to paint her trailer….and the following week, the view from her home in Malibu. (See below)
As I look at these paintings, I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment and self-worth. It fills me with so much happiness to make art every day. Having the opportunity to inspire people through my art is complete bliss.
Thanks for stopping by!
Every year, I make a point to read a book a month. Let’s call this a hobby and a personal fulfillment activity. The books I read are chosen at random. Sometimes a title will surface in conversation or I drop by the UCLA thrift shop in West LA to spend time looking through hundreds of choices. As the months pass and the stack of books on my shelf grows, I feel a sense of accomplishment. At the beginning of the new year I give away all the books I read to friends, making room for the new ones.
A nautical themed baby shower has me busy in the studio gluing shells to sticks for 17 centerpieces. A sketch idea is below. Smelling the salt water on the shells makes me feel anxious to experience those long summer nights by the shore….
What a lovely day to be outside! 4 miles through the canyons of Malibu. Hiking inspires my art. I love to look at the beautiful colors and views of the ocean.
I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to exhibit a series of recent paintings at the Laguna Art Museum’s annual event, Palette to Palate. Each artist selected the dining table, chairs and table decor for his/her own table. Since my work in the exhibition was floral themed, I decided to create one large, continuous centerpiece and give the patrons sitting at my table a small oil painting as their favor. The food, prepared by the Montage’s Executive chef, Craig Strong was an enchanting explosion of flavor and color that had us all craving more. What an amazing experience! This event is not to be missed-
My happy place: hiking in the hills. I am a true nature lover at heart. I took this photo yesterday as the sun was setting and we were heading back to the car after a long hike-
My niece Liliana, the paining I made of her when she was four and her birthday flowers. Then, her brother Vaughn aka Luke Skywalker joined in the photo too-
